The jury's reasoning:Since releasing her first album under her own name in 2008, Hilde Marie Kjersem has been continuously and consciously exploring different musical style elements. She has taken clear musical steps from jazz in the direction of pop, but has always managed to integrate different sources of inspiration into her own personal musical expression.
Kjersem's works are naturally melodious, while also containing subtle aspects. Each individual composition is based on clearly chosen moves and gives a clear and strong expression, but which is never predictable.
On the album "If we make it to the future" from 2013, she moves further into the pop genre and adds something to it that is both experienced as new and very personal. The soundscape is characterized by accurate, minimalist electronica elements and opens up through the use of surprising, often grandiose harmonic turns. With Kjersem's voice at the center of it all, the music constantly creates new connections between the familiar and the grand.
