The jury's reasoning

With a personal and heartfelt tone, unique playing technique and bold use of electronics, Nils Petter Molvær has succeeded in creating his own soundscapes. His music is the result of playfulness where composition, production and improvisation are often equal. With elements from modern jazz, electronica, hip-hop, ambient, house, pop and prog-rock, he has developed a modern Nordic tonal language that has garnered deserved international recognition. On the album Hamada, Molvær refines his own expression, seducing us with captivating, meditative motifs, still sound surfaces and simple melody lines. He dares to stand alone in a subdued expression with references to the minimalism of contemporary music. The album appears as a holistic work. He also makes room for solid, creative musicians who add beautiful soundscapes and massive energy in the form of heavy and suggestive rhythms.

This is distinctive music that once again consolidates Nils Petter Molvær's prominent position in Norwegian music life.
