TONO is a cooperative owned and managed by composers, lyricists and music publishers, and on their behalf manages the economic copyrights in the music they have created and own. TONO had as of 31.12. 2023 41,289 members, and also manages in Norwegian territory the rights of millions of authors and music publishers belonging to TONO's sister societies in other countries around the world.
The EU Directive on collective management of copyright (2014/26/EU) was adopted in 2014, and implemented in Norwegian law by the Act on Collective Management of Copyright, etc. of 28 May 2021 No. 49. According to the law, TONO is required to produce an annual transparency report. The information included in this report is, in TONO's understanding, in accordance with the requirements for transparency reports in the Regulations on the Collective Management of Copyright Act and the Act on Collective Management of Copyright.
It is TONO's wish that the transparency report will provide deeper insight into and understanding of TONO's unique nature, operations, finances and governance - among our members, sister societies, customers, the rest of the music industry and other interested parties.
