/ 07/03/2013 / codexThe Ministry of Culture's parliamentary proposal on amendments to the Copyright Act includes measures against infringements of copyright etc. on the Internet (Prop. 65 L (2012-2013). The matter was submitted to the Cabinet on 8 February, and was also announced at the press conference of Minister of Culture Hadia Tajik on the same day. Today's open hearing is the next stage in the process. TONO is participating through Chairman Ragnar Bjerkreim, CEO Cato Strøm, Department Director Inger Elise Mey and Head of Communications Willy Martinsen. TONO supports the proposed changes: - We are pleased that the consumption of music in legitimate channels, such as streaming services, is increasing explosively from year to year. In such services, rights and remuneration arrangements are safeguarded. We believe this trend will continue. Nevertheless, authors have been, and are, virtually without rights against infringements of their copyright on the Internet. TONO therefore supports the Ministry's proposal to strengthen the protection of composers, songwriters, lyricists and the rights of music publishers, says CEO of TONO, Cato Strom.
