NOK 58,4 million in the 2nd quarter settlement

(Oslo, 14 June 2013) This week (week 24) TONO will settle approximately NOK 58.4 million to licensees in Norway and abroad. This is the second ordinary quarterly settlement in 2013.

Of the amount settled this time, 30,4 percent goes to TONO licensees, while the remainder goes to licensees associated with TONO's sister societies in other countries.

In addition to the ordinary June settlement, we have settled the final settlement for broadcasting for 2012 performances, which is in addition to the settlement that was made in the area for the fourth quarter of 2012. The payout limit this time has been set at NOK 50, as opposed to the ordinary amount limit of NOK 250. This is due to clearing in connection with the transition to a new financial system. (For information: The amount limit means that those who normally receive settlements below the amount limit will receive the money immediately if the accumulated amount over several periods exceeds the amount limit).

Our overview of the payment of settlements also shows that the Norwegian share in the various TV and radio channels varies greatly. The more commercial the channel, the lower the Norwegian share. Radio generally has a higher Norwegian share than TV. NRK Folk Music (radio) and NRK District TV have the highest Norwegian shares with 91 and 91,5 percent respectively. The average Norwegian share for all areas that have been settled this time is 30,4 percent. By comparison, the Norwegian share for all settled areas in 2012 was 50,4 percent. This is not a sign of a decrease in the Norwegian share, but is the result of the June settlement being dominated by broadcasting. Concerts will be settled in the next quarter and the Norwegian share will then be significantly higher. In addition, the international settlement was relatively small in June. The variations are partly related to when we receive reported usage, and when and how we administratively settle the amounts. TONO rights holders can see the balance and all movements in their member account at any time on TONO's web services. Here you can also search for settlement data for individual works across periods and categories with details about the individual performances. TONO reserves the right to make any errors in settlement that are due to circumstances beyond our control. If such an error results in a licensee receiving too much in settlement, the error will be corrected by offsetting in the next payment.
