Preben Sælid Andersen, one of the frontmen in Hajk, currently with a debut album, video, and concerts this summer, took the time to answer 10 questions.
/ 18/07/2017 / Janne SieversName: Preben Sælid Andersen
Age: 26
Current with: Debut album with HAJK
TONO member since: 2010
What was the name of the first song you wrote for Hajk?
When Hajk started, we were just a trio, based in a small rehearsal space where we experimented with many different expressions. The first proper song I wrote was called "Over & out", but it has (fortunately) not stayed with us any longer.
What was the name of the last song you wrote?
It's the second track, "Nothing left to say," on our debut album. Something quite different from the first one.
What are you working on now?
These days I'm writing music for our second album. It's great to start with a bit of a blank slate after two years of work on our first album. On the weekends we travel around and play country and beach. There will also be a lot of traveling and playing with my other band Death by Unga Bunga. Busy days.
What is your career highlight so far?
The big concerts are always very special, so it must be a combination of the Hajk concert at a sold-out Parkteateret a few weeks ago, and DBUB's concert at Øyafestivalen/Vindfruen last summer.
How do you create songs?
I've invested in a small studio in a corner of our practice room. I sit here as often as I can, trying to create songs and demos as efficiently as possible, so that the original idea doesn't get lost, which it often does for me if I spend weeks and months writing one song.
Do you have a favorite instrument that you write music on?
Yes! Studio! Maybe more as a tool, but I have to have it anyway. Alternatively, a lot of good things can come out of a guitar on my lap in front of the TV or a line of text that has been burned into my head.
What do you do when you're not making music?
Eat and sleep. Otherwise I teach music, but that's also music. Difficult question.
What is your greatest musical experience?
Seeing the coolest rock bands that otherwise never play in Scandinavia, at the South by South West festival in Austin Texas.
Is there anything we should have asked you about?
Any new cool music videos out?
And what is your answer to that question?
Yes! A video of our acoustic version of our song "Magazine". Hope you like it.
